North Atlantic Council visits KFOR
The NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the North Atlantic Council
and ambassadors of KFOR contributing partners visited KFOR on Wednesday (3
July) to show continued support to the commander of KFOR General Halbauer
and his troops, as well as NATO's continued commitment to...the region. “This
is a time of great opportunity for Kosovo and for this region. I encourage all
the leaders and the people from all communities to continue on the path of
reconciliation and dialogue”, the Secretary General said. “Because we all know
that this is the path to long-term security, and long-term prosperity.”
The Secretary General met Mr Hashim Thaci and other local government leaders...

The Secretary General made clear that NATO and KFOR will continue to guarantee
security in Kosovo and remain ready to deal with any attempts to undermine the
progress that has been made.

take us closer to our goal: a Europe that is whole, free, and at peace.”
During the visit, the North Atlantic Council and the representatives
of KFOR contributing nations also met with Mr. Hashim Thaci for an

NATO Secretary General statement on Kosovo Security Force reaching Full
Operational Capability
I congratulate all members of the Kosovo Security Force on the achievement of
this step. I thank the servicemen and servicewomen of KFOR for all they have
done to help build the Kosovo Security Force.
The Kosovo Security Force mission remains the same as it always has been: to
conduct civil protection operations and to assist the civil authorities in
responding to natural disasters and other emergencies. The Alliance will
continue to provide support and advice through a NATO Liaison and Advisory Team.

The future of the Western Balkans lies in dialogue and reconciliation. I
therefore encourage members of all communities in Kosovo to consider joining
the Kosovo Security Force, to ensure that it continues to become a truly
multi-ethnic and representative force.

KFOR INTERVENES FOLLOWING DISTURBANCES IN THE VOTE IN MITROVICA POLLING
STATIONS

On Saturday afternoon, 2 November 2013, as a result of attacks on polling
stations in north MITROVICA, KFOR troops rapidly intervened.
At the request of EULEX, KFOR troops, pre-deployed in the north of KOSOVO to
contribute to a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement during the
election, immediately intervened.
Within 15 minutes of the EULEX request, KFOR deployed a Quick Reaction Force
from the Carabinieri Multinational Specialised Unit (MSU) to MITROVICA north.
Within 1 hour, reserve units from the KFOR Tactical Reserve Manoeuvre
Battalion (KTM) were also deployed to areas of concern in MITROVICA and
reinforced other KFOR units already deployed in the area.
In addition, in the town of ZVECAN, KFOR troops reacted to a disturbance and
restored security within the area.
Later in the evening, KFOR, as requested by EULEX, provided for a safe and
secure environment and freedom of movement on the routes through which the
election ballot material travelled to the counting centre.
KFOR will continue to act impartially, prudently and firmly to contribute to
maintain a safe and secure environment for all people in KOSOVO [sic].

NATO troops "to remain in Kosovo"
PRIŠTINA: NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Philip Breedlove says
KFOR at this point did not plan to reduce the number of its troops from Kosovo.
NATO is committed to supporting the agreement between Belgrade and Priština and
will not reduce the current number of troops in the next few months, Breedlove
said during a meeting with Kosovo officials.
NATO wants KFOR to be smaller and more flexible in the future, but that will
only happen once the time for that comes and the conditions are right, he
stressed.
The general made the statement after German and French media had speculated
that their nations were intending to pull their troops out of KFOR.
KFOR currently has 5,000 soldiers from 31 countries.
